Grace Yow is a trained fashion designer whose work experiments with shape, proportion, movement, technique and drapery of fabrics. Her ideas stem from constantly examining the cultural and social context. While connecting and empathizing with the human psyche and a desire to creatively express from within. Taking a philosophical and artistic approach to fashion, Yow created her own clothing label Among Strangers in 2006 with the intention to pull an emotional or expressive element out of the wearer. Additionally she hopes that each piece becomes a part of the wearer’s own narrative.

Having studied Fine Arts with a focus on sculpture at the University of Toronto, as well as fashion design at Parsons School of Design. Grace’s work has always been deeply influenced by art and design theory as well as art movements: in particular, Cubism, Dada, Surrealism, and Bauhaus.

Apart from fashion design, Yow has worked as an art director using graphic design, photography, videography, 3D installation design as means to communicate ideas and interact with audience. Her first large-scale sculpture was for Grand Hyatt Shenzhen, China.

Yow continues to work within the intersections of design, craft and art. She challenges herself to deconstruct and reinterpret the fine balance between each of the perspectives on the subject of identity, reality and expressionism.
